We Teach Boys.

"When I came to the Ridge, I thought we taught courses, but the headmaster disabused me of that notion. 'We don't teach courses or subjects,' he told me. 'We teach boys.'"
- longtime English teacher Miles McNiff

"An essential part of growing up to be an honorable and upstanding gentleman requires having a sufficient array of mentors and role models," explained Headmaster Lee Burns. "Adolescent boys need men in their lives to whom they can look up, respect, and admire."

Roughly 75 percent of the McCallie faculty are male, while the national average for schools is 25 percent male faculty.

Experience and Expertise.

McCallie teachers bring a wide range of experience and expertise to the classroom. Seventy-seven have advanced degrees, and seven hold doctoral degrees.

Ninety percent of the McCallie faculty have responsibilities beyond the classroom. They coach. They work in the dorms. They serve as academic advisors or as advisors for student clubs and organizations.
