As the Blue Tornado football team prepares for the Thursday, Dec. 2 state championship game and the McCallie community prepares to cheer them on, Head of School Lee Burns ’87 and Head Football Coach Ralph Potter ’81 shared their thoughts about football on the Ridge in a special edition of the Stories from the Ridge podcast series.

In a 15-minute conversation, the two discuss the legacy of football at McCallie, the school’s philosophical approach to the game, and the prospects for the upcoming contest against Montgomery Bell Academy. McCallie has won the past two Division II-AAA state championships. The contest for the third in a row will be held for the first time in Chattanooga’s Finley Stadium, which Coach Potter acknowledges gives the Blue Tornado something of a home-field advantage.
