- Head of School
The Big Blue Moon Pie bet is on again.
Head of School Lee Burns has made a friendly wager with Pete Sanders, Headmaster of Memphis University School, over which team will be victorious in the Division II football state championship game to be held Thursday, Dec. 3 in Cookeville, Tennessee.
On the line: If McCallie wins, MUS will ship a supply of Memphis-famous Gibson’s Donuts to Chattanooga to be distributed to all McCallie students. If MUS is victorious, McCallie will send MUS students a supply of Moon Pies. The world-famous Moon Pies are made here in Chattanooga by Chattanooga Bakery, which has long ties with McCallie School.
The wager is similar to the one last year when, as the result of McCallie’s victory over Nashville’s Montgomery Bell Academy, all McCallie students were treated to a Goo-Goo Cluster.
So, to our Blue Tornado football squad: don’t feel any pressure . . . but we’d sure like to savor some donuts. And we surely don’t want to have to send any Moon Pies to Memphis.
By the way, you can find an entertaining podcast about Moon Pies’ recent hugely successful marketing campaign and its connections to McCallie on our Stories from the Ridge podcast series.
