McCallie students gather gifts and food for local families

With only a few days until Christmas Break begins, the McCallie community prepares to spend with family and friends to celebrate this special season. However, before leaving for the semester, students in the Upper and Middle schools gave generously to ensure this Christmas season is a merry one for others who may not have as much during the holidays.

Over the past few weeks, students, faculty and staff in the Upper School bought presents to fill 91 Christmas lists for students at Westside Elementary School in Catoosa County, Ga., and a group of students delivered the gifts to the Westside kids.

At Thanksgiving, the Upper and Middle schools combined to provide turkey dinners that were given to families in need by the Salvation Army. Upper School students raised money to purchase turkeys, and the Middle School collected green beans, peas, stuffing, cranberries, potatoes, mac & cheese for the Thanksgiving baskets to complete the holiday meals.

This week, the Student Council, Leo Club and McCallie Association of Parents sponsored a collection of hams, turkeys and bagged citrus fruit for the Brainerd Community Food Pantry. Their Christmas distribution to local families will make the holidays special.

These are just some of the many ways McCallie School students, parents, faculty and staff have found ways to reach out and help our neighbors during this special time of year.

McCallie embraces the chance to partner with agencies and charities across the city to make Christmas brighter for everyone throughout the Chattanooga area, and putting the true meaning of the season first.

From all of us at McCallie, we wish everyone a healthy and happy holiday season, and we look forward to seeing everyone when classes resume on Monday, January 11, 2021.
