Larry Meade, Director of Business Support Services, retired at the end of December after an incredible 36-year career at McCallie School.
Larry has quietly and faithfully served the school in important but mostly unseen ways. Faculty and staff alike appreciated Larry’s quiet demeanor as he has worked to find out the best and most cost-effective way to secure office furnishings, equipment, computers and other materials that make it possible for everyone to do their jobs efficiently.
Larry started off in 1984 as a part-time bookstore clerk and quickly rose to bookstore manager. Since 1996 he has been Director of Business Support Services, where he oversaw major purchases and provided the Business Office with operational support.
He retired so that he can work full time as Senior Pastor at South Whitwell Baptist Church. Over the years Larry, with his wife Susan, have served in various pastoral and music positions at several churches, and now he’s ready to accept the call to full-time pulpit ministry.
“I leave McCallie with excitement and anticipation for what God has in store for this new chapter in our lives,” Larry told me. “I will forever be grateful for all that God has done for me and my family in this place.”
As Larry leaves the Ridge, Gordon Geralds will be transitioning into the role of Director of Purchasing. He will continue to assist IT with major purchasing and take on the enterprise-level contracts from Larry along with assisting various departments with their major purchases as well.
We wish Larry and his family all the best in his retirement.
