Fine Arts At McCallie: A Way to Self-Discovery

Terms like “empathy,” “new ways of thinking,” “problem-solving,” and “world view” are usually not terms associated with the arts, but they are among many interesting terms used by McCallie arts teachers when discussing their academic discipline. Those terms are shared by three of the school’s arts teachers in the latest edition of McCallie’s Stories from the Ridge podcast series that is focusing on the academic disciplines at McCallie.

The teachers discuss how they use arts as a means of self-discovery and self-awareness, and the special challenges and rewards arts offered by arts in an all-boys environment.

Those terms and great perspective of our teachers of how arts fit into the whole academic curriculum are what make McCallie’s arts programs unique and among the best.

The podcast, featuring Department Chair Paul Merrion and teachers Suzanne Mortimer and Will Givens, is hosted by Dean of Faculty and Curriculum Sumner McCallie. It can be found below or by searching for McCallie Stories from the Ridge on most podcast platforms.
