The tennis team followed up its 2019 state championship with a perfect season and a 10th state title. At the state tournament, McCallie defeated Ensworth in the semifinals and Montgomery Bell Academy in the finals by identical 4-0 scores.
Charlie Griffith clinched the title against MBA, winning at No. 5 singles for the team’s fourth point and setting off a raucous team celebration.
Additionally, sophomore Andreas Sillaste and junior Colin Tuttle qualified for the state individual singles tournament, and the tennis doubles tandem of junior Will Leathers and freshman Gabe Getz earned a spot in the state individual doubles event.
Leathers and Getz punctuated the season by winning the doubles state title in straight sets over their opponent from Memphis University School. It was the tennis program’s first state doubles crown since 2017.
On the season, Head coach Jeff Clark’s Blue Tornado rolled to a 15-0 record in dual matches and only allowed five total team points to opponents.
