Charles E. Knox II ’83

Boarding Graduate from Thomson, Georgia

After graduating from McCallie in 1983, Charlie received a BA from the University of Georgia. Following UGA, he began a career in risk management at the Garlington Group in Atlanta. While in Atlanta, Charlie met his wife Kimberly and this year they celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary.

In 1997 Charlie transitioned into the Financial Services sector and joined Interstate/Johnson Lane. He later started an Augusta office for Morgan Keegan which subsequently became Raymond James. He currently serves as Managing Director/ Investments at Raymond James.

Outside of his business, Charlie has served on the Board of Directors for Goodwill Industries, Gertrude Herbert Institute of Art, Westminster Schools of Augusta and the Board of Trustees for McCallie. Currently, he is serving a second term as a Trustee for the University of Georgia Foundation.

Charlie and Kimberly have six children (five boys). While on the Board at McCallie, he unsuccessfully lobbied for a new tuition plan featuring “buy 4, get the 5th one free.” In his free time, Charlie enjoys golf, fishing and traveling with his family. He also enjoys playing in his long time band The Crosstie Walkers - a band that has successfully avoided fame and fortune for over 25 years!

The words, “ Man’s chief end is to glorify God and enjoy Him forever”, are ones that the McCallie community sees daily in the chapel. “Those words impacted me then and still do today,” Charlie said. “I find great fulfillment in serving in missions and outreach opportunities, and by making a joyful noise in the choir of Trinity on the Hill Methodist Church.” Charlie also noted, “Coming from a very small town in Georgia to McCallie as a 15 year old opened my eyes and expanded my views in so many ways - while also reinforcing the values I learned from my parents at home. The words Honor, Truth, and Duty have a special meaning in my life because of McCallie. Coming back to McCallie over the recent years, whether to visit my sons or to serve as a Trustee, has been an honor and a joy.”
