Built For Boys

There's no better place to be a boy.

"Built for Boys" is more than a slogan.

Since 1905, McCallie has been focused on helping boys grow into men of character. Our faculty have more than 2,000 years of combined experience teaching in an all-boys environment, but we also know that we can’t stop learning. McCallie is committed to looking forward and embracing the latest research on the best ways to help boys learn, grow and develop.

Using this combination of time-tested experience and cutting-edge research, we have created an environment that is custom built for boys to become the best version of themselves.

Boys see the world differently. So do we.

It's more than what we do. It's why we do it.

Below you'll see some of things that set McCallie apart as a great place for boys to learn and grow, and you'll also learn the logic behind them.

8:55 a.m. Class Start Time

We begin class at 8:55 every morning because we know that boys - and all teenagers! - need sleep to perform at their highest levels.

8 Full-Time Writing and Learning Center Staff

Boys need to be challenged, but they also need to learn when to ask for help. By surrounding them with academic resources, McCallie’s environment encourages boys to become self-advocates in their academic journey.

Active and Interactive Classes and Classrooms

Boys respond better in classes where they have time to move, play and interact with their teachers and each other as part of the learning process. We've also built classrooms like the Turner Center for Engineering and Design and the Center for Animation, Video and Entertainment that give boys hands-on learning experiences.

4 Meals Served Every Weekday

Beyond just meeting the late-night hunger every parent knows about, serving a fourth meal each weeknight for boarding students gives boys fuel for study and a break in their evening routine.

43 Different Summer Reading Groups

Boys choose their own summer reading groups, which are led by faculty and even their peers. These groups choose books that appeal to boys and help nurture a love of reading that goes beyond completing an assignment.

48+ Co-Ed Events Every Year

While boys thrive in the all-boys academic environment that McCallie provides, our partnership with our sister school, GPS, ensures boys have ample opportunities for social interaction with girls, in addition to co-ed music groups, enrichment courses, athletic teams and service groups.

50-Minute Class Periods and Rotating Schedule

Our schedule is built to accommodate classes that incorporate the action - and interaction - that boys need. It also gives boys the chance to move between classes often and prepares them for life in college.

296 Different Leadership Positions

Boys need a place where personal sacrifice contributes to the collective spirit. McCallie provides a myriad of leadership opportunities for boys to serve their school and community in positions where others are counting on them.

What makes a man?

We encourage boys to explore this question meaningfully and thoughtfully in every part of their lives at McCallie, and we push them to think about their growth physically, academically and spiritually.
