Over the past two decades, we have seen a growing demand for individuals who understand technology and its uses in the day-to-day world, across all disciplines. At its core, computer science is about thoughtful, innovative, efficient design. It is also about how to best create interfaces, programs, and applications which harness the power of data and pull people together. Course Descriptions

COM110 AP Computer Science Principles

AP Computer Science Principles offers a multidisciplinary approach to teaching the underlying principles of computation. The course will introduce students to the creative aspects of programming, abstractions, algorithms, large data sets, the Internet, cybersecurity concerns, and computing impacts. AP Computer Science Principles also gives students the opportunity to use current technologies to create computational artifacts for both self-expression and problem solving. Semester course. Grade: 9-12. Prerequisites: None

COM120 Introduction to Computer Science

Through a variety of videos, exercises, quizzes, and class discussions, students will build an understanding and practice the fundamentals of computer science. They will connect computer science to their daily lives through an individual project that asks to use technology to improve our community. This course aims to provide students with a new perspective for viewing creativity, problem-solving, and computer science in the real world. Semester course. Grade: 9-12. Prerequisites: AP Computer Science Principles

COM125 Robotics

In this beginning course in robotics, students will construct systems using robotics equipment, will program in a variety of languages including JAVA, and will develop a strong understanding of real-world applications of computer science and engineering principles. The objective is to introduce basic programming, engineering, and problem solving strategies. The course will involve students in the development and hands-on building and programming of a robot for a specific purpose using the engineering design process. Topics may include motor control, gear ratios, torque, friction, sensors, timing, program loops, logic gates, decision-making, timing sequences, propulsion systems and binary number systems. Semester course. Grade: 9-12. Prerequisites: None

COM140 Introduction to Computer Systems

This course will focus on providing students with a foundation of IT skills and knowledge. Through a combination of hands-on labs and lessons, students will learn about computer software, hardware, programming, databases, networking, information systems, and Cloud computing. The course will also use problem solving strategies to work out different IT puzzles. Semester course. Grade: 9-12. Prerequisites: AP Computer Science Principles

COM 345 Intermediate Computer Science

This course provides an introduction to game design using Unity, one of the most popular game engines in the industry. Throughout this hands-on course, you will learn the fundamentals of Unity game development. Along the way, we will explore essential game development concepts such as game objects, components, scripts, and scenes, laying the groundwork for building engaging game environments. We will learn the basics of C# to write scripts to control game behavior, handle user input and implement game logic. By the end of the course, you will have the knowledge and skills to create your own basic games in Unity. Semester course. Grade: 9-12. Prerequisite: AP Computer Science Principles

COM350: Cybersecurity: Networking Essentials

This course will provide students with a foundational understanding of cybersecurity with a primary focus on computer networking. Through engaging lessons and hands-on labs (the same labs are used by security professionals working in the industry), students will explore the principles, tools and techniques necessary to safeguard networks against cyber threats. By the end of this course, students will have the knowledge and skills to assess and address cybersecurity risks in a networked environment. Students will also have the opportunity to earn a vendor specific network certification. Semester course. Grade: 9-12. Prerequisite: AP Computer Science Principles
