two students laugh with Head of School Lee Burns during conversation on a sunny day

Greetings from the Head of School

From its beginning as a humble family farm turned in 1905 to a school, McCallie operates from a deep sense of commitment to each boy entrusted to our care. We walk with him and support him as he is learning who he is and what he can be and do in this life.

We encourage boys to lean into the challenges they face in their formative adolescent years, while providing them with the support they need to meet those challenges head-on.McCallie is a school of high standards. We imbue students with a sense of character and integrity founded in honor, truth, and duty. We are committed to the academic preparation and intellectual growth of each boy, to his social and emotional development, and to his spiritual formation and growth. We want every boy to understand that he is created in the image of God and thus worthy of dignity, respect, and love.

McCallie boys become very close with one another as well as with their teachers, coaches, advisors, and dorm leaders. Their deep care for one another and their common experiences of learning and growing up together leads them to form lifelong bonds and friendships. At graduation, boys lock arms as brothers, knowing that McCallie will always be part of them and with them as a resource and companion for life.

I am glad that you have found your way to McCallie and encourage you to spend some time discovering all that we have to offer. A boy can discover so many interests and passions here, learning as much in the classroom as on the sporting field or stage, dining hall or dorm. Please come visit us to see the beauty of our campus and feel the kindness, closeness, and enthusiasm of our community.

Sincerely,
A. Lee Burns '87
