McCallie seeks out and accepts boys from all ethnic, racial, religious, and socioeconomic backgrounds and places a high value on a diverse student body.
McCallie's cross country program has traditionally been a force among region distance running competitions. Since 2001, McCallie has won five team TSSAA state titles (2001, 2005, 2006, 2012 and 2013). These five titles have come under Head Coach Mike Wood who won his first championship in his first year leading the program in 2001. Coach Wood was named the National Federation of State High School Associations Tennessee Coach of the Year in 2008.
The Blue Tornado runners have captured the City Championship each of the last two seasons, and in 2018, were state runners up with five athletes earning All-State honors.
The high school program has a talented and veteran coaching staff including Rodney Stoker, Duke Richey ’86, Bryan Sansbury ’03 and John McCall ’61.
Dylan Carmack ’15 won the 2014 TSSAA Division II-AA Individual Cross Country State Championship and is a varsity runner at Davidson College.
