Cross Country - Middle School
Team Overview
The McCallie Middle School Cross Country team is comprised of students in the sixth, seventh, and eighth grades. The focus of the coaches is to present the sport of running as a life-long activity that can provide opportunities for a healthy lifestyle. Each athlete is expected to participate with a full effort, positive attitude, and cooperative spirit. By doing so, the coaches believe that each athlete, and the team, will have a successful, meaningful, and fun experience.
The team competes at the local and state levels, and all of the races allow for 100 percent participation.
In 2015, the varsity team went undefeated in all competitions, and both the varsity and junior varsity claimed Tennessee State Championships. The 2016 season resulted in a third-place finish in the state for the varsity squad, while 2017 saw the JV team place second.
Last fall, the varsity placed fifth in the state while the JV squad won the state title for its division, led by individual state champion Gus Farmer.
Chris Greenwood leads the coaching staff and is joined by John Marcellis ’85 and Adam Webb.
