McCallie’s Middle School wrestling program is led by former collegiate wrestler Matthew PItts who wrestled at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga from 2001-2005. Pitts was a Southern Conference Champion in 2002 and a three-time NCAA Tournament participant. He was selected as the 2002 Southern Conference Freshman of the Year and ranks third in school history in career pins.

Pitts lends his wealth of knowledge to the Middle School program and also has extremely skilled assistant coaches on hand including longtime McCallie coach Gordon Connell and Josh Coleman.

The Middle School program instructs entry level student-athletes to the sport and trains regional and national level competitive student-athletes. The program has produced two Dixie Nationals Champions (2012 and 2013). Additionally, it is a feeder for McCallie’s storied varsity wrestling program which has won eight Tennessee State Tournament Championships, six State Dual Meet Championships and has produced more than 60 individual state champions in the sport since 2000. T.J. Duncan ’11 and Alex Whitworth '21 are two of only three wrestlers in the State of Tennessee to win five state titles.
