The McCallie middle school soccer program is one of the more popular spring offerings for boys, and the school fields two teams in the spring.
Weesie Cook, Preston Godbold, and Daniel Tamez run the day-to-day training sessions and coach both teams in matches. Weesie is a GPS graduate, played college soccer at Hollins University, and teaches Upper School English. A son of African missionaries, Preston played soccer at Cedarville University and teaches Upper School science. Daniel is in his first year as a McCallie Spanish teacher.
The Middle School programs are supported by high school varsity head coach Chris Cushenbery. Under Coach Cushenbery, the Blue Tornado have won two state championships and have a runner up finish. Chris teaches Economics to Upper School students.
McCallie's Middle School program has traditionally been very successful. But winning matches is a byproduct of the development and training the boys receive as members of one of the teams. They learn the finer points of the game while also gaining an understanding of teamwork, sportsmanship, brotherhood, and hard work.
