Blue Tornado Ultimate

What has been a longtime favorite activity of McCallie boys became the school’s latest varsity sport in the spring of 2024. In its first year under the Athletics umbrella, 32 boys were members of the first ever McCallie varsity Ultimate team.

Under the direction of coaches Jake Altemus, Hank Currin, Samuel Ligon, and Bryan Sansbury, the boys benefitted from a recently constructed field on the south end of campus and competed against local school teams and clubs across the state and the tri-state area. The Blue Tornado played in the state tournament and placed third, advancing to the semifinals.

More than 30 athletes made up the 2025 team’s roster, and the players competed against teams from across the state and region in locations such as Chattanooga, Knoxville and Nashville. The Blue Tornado were seeded sixth in the state tournament in Nashville and beat Montgomery Bell Academy and University School of Nashville to place fifth overall.
