Blue Tornado Swimming & Diving

The swimming program is on a roll, winning its fifth State Championship in the last seven year in 2025 and its 24th overall. Swimming and diving has the most state titles of any program at the school and shows no signs of letting up.

Following the 2025 state meet, longtime Head Coach Stan Corcoran announced that he would be stepping down as head coach, and the school promoted Zane Hamilton '02 to that role. Coach Corcoran, who directed the Blue Tornado for 33 years and to 12 state championships, will remain on board as an assistant coach.

Coach Hamilton swam collegiately at Johns Hopkins University and has been an assistant with the McCallie program for the last five years.

Marvin Johnson, an 18-time All-American who owns state records in the 50- and 100-yard freestyle races set at the 2025 state meet, is taking his skills to the University of Florida. Sophomore Collin Holgerson was selected the meet's Most Outstanding Male Swimmer, racing to first-place finishes and setting state records in the 200 individual medley and the 100 breaststroke and being part of the winning 200 medley relay and 200 freestyle relay quartets.

McCallie won back-to-back state titles in 2019 and 2020, were state runners-up in 2021 and have brought home the state championship trophy in 2023, 2024 and 2025. The Blue Tornado have beaten Baylor in the annual dual meet four consecutive years.

Nearly 60 swimmers who have trained under Coach Corcoran have gone on to compete at the collegiate level. Perhaps his most notable student-athlete is alumnus Sean Ryan '10, a State Champion who continued his career at the University of Michigan, won Big 10 Conference titles and competed internationally. In August 2016, Sean competed in the 10k Open Water event at the Summer Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, as a member of Team USA. Sean returned to McCallie to work with the high school program for three years.

Other notable collegiate swimmers include Jake Marcum '19 (Alabama), Will Jackson '20 (Tennessee) and Sam Powe '22 (Georgia). Benton Grutter '25 will swim at the University of North Carolina.
