Blue Tornado Mountain Biking

With the sport's popularity and access to the Chattanooga area’s many trails and off-road courses, mountain biking became an official McCallie varsity sport in 2023.

Under the direction of Head Coach Jesse Teague, the biking team competed in four races in 2024, two in Nashville, one in Sewanee, and the Tennessee Interscholastic Cycling League State Championships at Raccoon Mountain near Chattanooga. Coach Teague saw consistent improvement from his riders, a squad which included a large number of sophomores and freshmen. Senior Henry Clark was the team leader and placed eighth at the state meet. Junior Ethan Wagner finished 16th.

The boys participated in five events in the inaugural season in 2023, including the State Championships. At the state races, Ben Anz placed 16th in the sophomore category, and Bobby Welsh finished 12th in the Category 1 Elite division.

McCallie's mountain biking offering fits right in with Chattanooga's celebrated outdoor opportunities and scene. What was once a fun afternoon activity for McCallie boys has grown into a competitive sport available for all levels of riders.
