The Music Department at McCallie is home to an impressive, diverse and critically-recognized, collection of musical groups! Offerings include guitar ensemble, wind ensemble, strings and orchestra, and more than half a dozen choirs and choral ensembles.
Every year, some 300 of the Upper School boys -- frequently more than half the student body -- participate in some aspect of McCallie's annual Christmastime musical event ("Candlelight"), a beloved tradition on the Ridge for more than 20 years.
"Musicians at McCallie collaborate meaningfully, think critically and creatively, and communicate effectively. Those skills are useful in any career, academic pursuit or area of life."
- Michael Ake, McCallie performing arts department chairman
Candlelight, McCallie's musical celebration of the Christmas season, has been an annual tradition since 1985.
Performances will be on Friday, December 6 and Saturday, December 7. The concert begins at 8:00 pm. Please bring a canned good to donate to the Chattanooga Food Bank. General admission tickets are $10 and may be purchased by clicking the button below.
The McCallie Music Patrons
From Band Camp to Whirlwind, nothing the McCallie School Music Department does is possible without the support of our Music Patrons Organization! In the 2019-2020 school year, music students will experience masterclasses with world-class musicians, performances across the region, and have the opportunity to share their talents with the greater Chattanooga area. Your partnership impacts lives throughout the McCallie community and beyond our gates.
Music Patrons are parents of students, alumni, and anyone who supports the work of the music programs at McCallie. The patrons volunteer to distribute programs, help with fundraising efforts, and decorate the McCallie Chapel for the various performances that take place during the year.
