Standefer Memorial Garden
Jackson Alan Standefer ’21 Reflection Garden
Over the years, McCallie School has responded to numerous requests from alumni and family regarding memorials on campus to honor lost loved ones.
In April 2017, the McCallie eighth grade class tragically lost Jackson Alan Standefer ’21. Knowing his deep love for the McCallie brotherhood, family and friends raised funds to create a remembrance on campus to keep "Jackson, forever in our hearts."
The result is the Jackson Alan Standefer ’21 Reflection Garden, a beautiful, tranquil space for quiet reflection and meditation, not only honoring Jackson but also potentially honoring those who have gone before and those who will follow.
Located in a place of permanence and solitude beside the McCallie Chapel and designed to reflect the natural landscape that Jackson loved, the Reflection Garden is the available sacred space for all future memorial requests for eligible individuals. This can include the scattering of ashes.
There will be a minimum one-time cost of $1,000 to have the deceased’s name listed on the Remembrance Wall. All wall plates will be listed in chronological order of submission and will be the same size and style; text will include full name (unless initial is needed due to length) and class year followed by birth date and death date on second/third line as needed.
If a service or scattering of ashes is desired, this will be performed solely by the families and friends of the deceased. Cremains must be scattered in the river rock basin of the fountain. McCallie School does not assist or participate in the scattering of ashes or any associated ceremonies. Services must be approved through the Facility Use Committee, must be consistent with the school’s mission, and are not allowed during normal school hours unless authorized.
McCallie will accept pre-gifts for recognition in the garden; the school will not offer refunds if a decision is made not to recognize the deceased at time of death.
