Home on the Ridge

McCallie Campus from overhead

McCallie's campus rests on the western slope of Missionary Ridge, the site of an important Civil War battle. Many of the buildings on campus afford a view of Chattanooga's other famous landmarks: Lookout, Raccoon, and Signal Mountains.

The campus spans 160 acres in the heart of Chattanooga, bringing all the benefits of a large school campus together with the energy of life in one of America's great mid-sized cities.

On the Ridge, Time Flies.

It's hard to capture the energy of McCallie's campus in just words and photos. The video below gives you a sense of life on the campus we call home.

Atop the Ridge sits the Maclellan Academic Center, which serves as the hub of academic life for the Upper School. Recently renovated, the academic center is home to McCallie's Learning Center and Caldwell Writing Center, and spacious classrooms covering classes in the humanities. The academic center also houses McCallie's Counseling Center and the administrative offices of the upper school and the Deans.

The newly-built Walker Hall is a state-of-the-art classroom building dedicated to the sciences. From traditional classrooms and laboratories to a cell research laboratory and the Turner Center for Engineering and Design, Walker Hall is an exceptional place for boys to explore the sciences and engineering.

McDonald Hall, home to McCallie's Middle School, is custom-built to meet the needs of sixth, seventh and eighth graders by building a bridge between the traditional elementary school experience and the freedom of a campus as large as McCallie's. Within McDonald Hall is a comprehensive library-media center.

The 32,000 square-foot dining hall, Alumni Hall, located at the southern end of the upper campus, contains a beautiful and spacious general dining area. The main room seats over 400 and easily manages the lunch rush of 1,200 students, faculty and staff on a daily basis. In addition, the Brock-Lazenby Rooms, located on the North side of the facility, seat up to 150 for meetings and can be divided into three separate meeting rooms.

Other facilities include the Hunter Fine Arts Center, the Chapel, administration building Caldwell Hall, five dormitories, and numerous faculty homes.

Athletic facilities include the 180,000 square-foot Sports & Activities Center (SAC); an outdoor lake; the state-of-the-art Strang-Voges Tennis Center, an indoor golf practice facility, a 4000-seat stadium with an all-weather track, and five additional fields for soccer, lacrosse, and baseball.

The award-winning SAC is an exceptional facility for students' activities, athletics, and recreation. The SAC includes a 25x25-yard natatorium, a 200-meter track, a main performance court with seating for 1,500, two lower basketball courts, a fitness and comprehensive weight training room, two wrestling practice rooms, a squash court, a climbing gym, and administrative support areas.

The Student Center is a popular gathering place for students to relax and socialize at the end of the day, on the weekends, and even between classes. Students can play pool, table tennis, air hockey, foosball and video games or watch TV.
