Leslie Harold Echart of Chattanooga, Tenn., died May 14, 2008. The World War II veteran worked for McCallie from 1955 to 1988. He taught Latin, economics, social studies and modern history and served as band director. He is survived by his wife Inda, two children, two grandchildren and one sister.
 
Albert Lea Garth of Signal Mountain, Tenn., died June 30, 2008. The World War II veteran and former semi-professional baseball player taught Algebra and Bible classes at McCallie from 1955 to 1981. He also served as an assistant golf coach. Garth is survived by several nieces and nephews.
 
Bernard Talmage Hurley Jr. of Chattanooga, died May 24, 2009. The World War II veteran and former life insurance executive taught English and history at McCallie from 1947-48. He is survived by his wife Mai Bell, son Tal Hurley III ’72, one daughter and two granddaughters.
 
Albert Warren James ’43 of Chattanooga, Tenn., died October 19, 2008, at age 82. The World War II & Korean War Navy veteran was hired to teach English at McCallie in 1952, and was a fixture on campus for nearly 40 years. James also served as English department head, was named Associate Headmaster in 1978 and Dean of Day Students in 1988 before retiring from McCallie in 1990. James was a longtime volunteer at the Ronald McDonald House in Chattanooga and St. Barnabas Nursing Home. He is survived by his sons, Mark (Joey) James and Dewey James, two granddaughters and one great-granddaughter.

Edwin C. Lundien of Chattanooga, died October 5, 2009. A decorated World War II veteran, he taught biology and coached golf and swimming at McCallie from 1951 until 1984. He is survived by his wife Phyllis, four children, four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
 
Helen Maywhort of Bowling Green, Ky., died June 21, 2009. She served as librarian at McCallie from 1959 to 1983. Helen is survived by her son, Bill Maywhort ’64, one daughter, five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
 
Patrick Duncan McKinsey of Signal Mountain, Tenn., died August 5, 2011. He taught math at McCallie from 1952-1988 and was also involved in Day Camp. He also taught life saving and physical fitness. He is survived by his wife Mary Jane, a son Pat ’77, five grandchildren and a brother. 
 
Jack Cecil Nelson of Soddy-Daisy, Tenn., died June 16, 2008. A World War II veteran, he served as McCallie’s business manager from 1972 to 1985 and also worked as a procurement executive with Arabian American Oil Company. Nelson is survived by three children.
 
Craig Houston Patterson ’43, longtime McCallie math teacher, Associate Headmaster and coach, died on October 28, 2010. The World War II Navy veteran, mechanical engineer and outdoor enthusiast is survived by two daughters and a brother, Robert ‘44.
