Class 2004 Mathematical Farewell:
The ancient Pythagoreans stated that “all is number.”
I would like to investigate what they may have meant by this.
Mr. Royer is in charge of the senior class graduation and I am not.
Subtract his phone number 5859 from mine 5846 and you get 13.
There are 11 letters in
Dodds Avenue
. The average of these two numbers
is 12. There are 150 seniors, 14
varsity sports, and 3 words in our motto “Honor, Truth, Duty.”
Add these up and you get 167. Multiply
this by the previously calculated 12 and you get 2004, our current graduating
class.
But wait. Keep this number in mind.
Dr. Walker graduated in 1969 and has 3 children add these to get 1972 and then
subtract the year of the founding of our school 1905 and you get 67.
Multiply this by the number of words in “The McCallie School”, 3 to
get 201. Add to this the number of
years the school has been in existence, 99 to arrive at the number 300.
Mr. Sholl, the last Honors Geometry teacher has 5 letters in his last
name. Pythagoras, the first Geometry
teacher has 10 letters in his name. Multiply
these together to get 50. Place this
50 in front of the 300 to get the number 50,300.
Finally, add to this the aforementioned class of 2004 and you get 52,304.
Let’s look at that number again
5-23-04
, the day the seniors graduate.
Hmm. Maybe all is number.
2005 Allison Geometry Award:
It is my honor to present
this year's Geometry award. As you may know, Geometry is based upon
Euclid's book, The Elements. It has 5 basic postulates and 23 basic
definitions contained in the Dover Press 3 volume edition.
This is my 14th and last
year at our beloved McCallie School. If you divide it by the letters in
this awardee's nickname and multiply it by the number of his birth month 7 and
multiply all that by the aforementioned 345, you get 16,905.
16905 can be factored into
the product of 105 and 161. Assign 1 to the letter A, 2 to the letter B
and so on. 105 represents the sum of the letters of our awardee's first
name and 161 the sum of the letters of his last name.
Ladies and gentlemen I
present to you Trironk Kiatkungwanglai... TK to most of us.
