WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS
McCALLIE CREW finished the fall 2004 headrace season in grand style winning both of its events at the Head of the Chattahoochie, “the Hooch” in Gainesville, Georgia. The Hooch is by far the biggest regatta in the South with over 4,000 athletes and 1,100 boats racing against the clock over a 3 mile course. Only Boston’s Head of the Charles is bigger. Forty-one crews from all over the South, from St. Louis, to Miami were entered in the premier youth event, the Men’s 8+. McCALLIE’s VARSITY boat beat the second place boat by some ten seconds. If there were such a thing as the HEADRACE CHAMPION of the SOUTH for high school age crews the McCALLIIE’S VARSITY 8+ could justly claim it. McCALLIE’S NOVICE 8+ also won gold medals to round out a great day.
